A British porn star who can earn £6,000 for just three days work has lifted the life on life on set – and insists it’s a female dominated world where women are the stars and are paid accordingly.
Kiki Minaj, who moved to London from the West Midlands to be an accountant, but is now one of the leading black female adult performers in the UK, appeared on Channel 5’s new series The Sex Business, which delves behind the scenes in the porn industry.
She told how she can charge up to twice as much as her male co-stars for the same amount of work, and said ‘there’s no problem with this sexism thing in the porn industry’, because ‘it’s all about the girl’.
According to Kiki, intercourse only accounts for around 30 per cent of her time on set, most of which she says is spent ‘waiting around’.
And while her day job revolves around sex, Kiki admits her life outside of work is much more low-key, and told how she enjoys chilling at home with her friends and family and getting stuck into her favourite pastime – baking.
‘In the sex industry I think women are taken very seriously, it’s all about the girl,’ Kiki said on the show.
‘When people are watching porn and it’s a guy and a girl, they are mainly watching the girl.
‘There’s no problem with this sexism thing in the porn industry. We have sex, we can’t have sexism when we’re having sex. In porn you’re the star.’
Kiki said she has no qualms about what she does for a living, insisting that she is simply earning money and enjoying it.
Originally from the West Midlands, Kiki had originally planned to move to London to become an accountant, but when she was asked to do a same-sex scene for Playboy, she decided she didn’t want to turn down the money.
‘I didn’t just choose porn, I’m an attention seeker. That’s what it is, so I like attention,’ she explained.
‘It was Playboy that sold it for me. It was kind of more worth going into boy-girl porn, because it’s way more money.’
Kiki said that as her reputation grew and her skillset developed, she was able to go from charging £2,000 to £6,000, and now travels around Europe to film on location.
Having been invited to star in a big production in Prague during the filming of the Channel 5 documentary, Kiki said she loved to be pampered on set.
‘It’s really exciting for me. I don’t think of it like “oh I’m going to work today I’m going to… have sex”. I’m going there and going to get my make-up done for an hour or two and I go into wardrobe and get clothes.’
Kiki said that sometimes she will spend up to 15 hours on set before any action takes place, and even then she only has to perform for a few minutes, and the main part of her job is done.
‘The actual sex part for me in a whole day is probably like 30 per cent. This is the life, sitting around and waiting.’
She added: ‘When you’re having sex at home, you’re just having sex, you love the person or whatever. In porn everything has to be open to the camera, so everything has to be… on an angle, it’s not very comfortable.’
The adult performer, who prides herself on keeping her private life separate from her work, said she had a normal childhood.
‘I think I had a good childhood, my mum was cool, my dad was cool. We had good stuff, we always had what we wanted, we done lots of day trips, we went to Blackpool all the time.
‘I know some women whose children will be out there stealing, shooting drugs and crack and all sorts of stuff.’
Defending her career path Kiki, said: ‘I am just making money, doing a legitimate job, I know I am safe.
‘I paid my taxes, I do what I’m supposed to do, I’m not hurting anybody. So it is what it is.
She added: ‘The world has changed. Nice women, nurses, doctors, are busting it out at home on the webcam to make extra money on the side.
‘Like people do this, for me it’s just a job. I’m having sex for a few minutes, people are obviously buying it. I don’t see what the problem is.’
The Sex Business continues tonight on Channel 5 at 10pm
